Have you ever been at a networking event or opportunity and found yourself clueless on how to pitch yourself? You probably have faced this one too many times. I have faced this on many occasions and even in interviews. So I decided to research and develop a process to help create repetitive but unique elevator pitches within a short period.
Now, that’s a good elevator pitch example.
To begin with, this article details out the whole process of developing a scalable and effective elevator pitch template that brings in results and drives sales in such scenarios. After this, you should be able to develop creative elevator pitch examples and create elevator pitch templates for different cases.
What is an elevator speech?
It is a combination of communication, presentation, and one’s ability to compel. Short, and coined after the number of seconds we spend on an average elevator ride, an elevator pitch, if effective, present you or idea or product in the best possible light. But, if negative, it gives the opposite effect.
Also called an elevator speech or elevator statement, it has become one of the most used ways of networking and sharing one’s expertise with relatively new people. Therefore, everyone including you needs to know how to create creative elevator pitch examples and to effectively deliver them. Besides, it has to be professional regardless of your approach. We are going to see sample elevator pitches later on in this article.
When you should use an elevator pitch?
How to write an elevator pitch and delivering it is a crucial skill for success in networking and even in interviews. Especially in a fast-paced world, you need the best elevator pitch examples to promote your ideas, product, and yourself.
Besides, there are different avenues and mediums to which you can use your sample elevator pitches.
So before writing the typical elevator speech template structure and show some sample elevator pitches, let’s discuss mediums to use elevator speeches.
1. Networking or Membership Events
At every networking event, the aim is to connect with new people. Therefore, for you, it is important to present yourself as capable in order not to lose opportunities. First impressions matter and your elevator pitch is your first impression ticket.
Subsequently, in such events, advice, opportunities, opening are flying around, and your elevator pitch, if well presented and effective, stating your values could help land good advice, connection, or even a job. Consequently, you could as well be of help to other people. Your pitch, experience, value proposition could be the defining moment for you here and ultimately in your career.
2. Career Fairs
This is another medium that is often great for newcomers – fresh graduates, career changers. A good descriptive, value-based elevator pitch could easily land you an interview or an opportunity and make you recognizable. Here it is easy to fall victim of being presumptuous or too forward. Therefore, you want your prospective employer to lead the conversation. Push towards that elevator pitch, but be careful. Once you get the opportunity, nail it.
At your workplace, you might desire to increase your internal networks and even get direct mentorship from certain individuals within your organization. A good elevator pitch is a good starting point. Whether it’s before a meeting or during a company event or in an actual elevator, it is great to put yourself out there. An elevator pitch could help push your career and make yourself more visible to the first floor and even colleagues. At work, all your ideas can be presented to your colleagues or bosses via a good elevator pitch to get a larger audience and possible implementation.
Every interview always gives the simple task of describing oneself. Many people oftentimes miss the target. Therefore, setting themselves up for more issues done the line. Also, a good and tailored elevator pitch developed from your personalized and effective elevator pitch template will do the trick. By the way, it is not a recitation, and therefore, you should tailor it to the company’s expectation and that’s the usefulness of an elevator speech template.
5. Online Profiles
Almost every social platform has an ‘about yourself’ column. Therefore, this column is your opportunity to show the world, who you are, what value you bring to the table, and what you want. Especially for professional platforms such as LinkedIn, Behance (for creatives), you need to sell yourself with your words. Here, it is easier to deliver your creative elevator pitch examples since there is no physical presence.Make your own elevator pitch example, practice them, and see which one fits for certain scenarios. How to write an elevator pitch?
1. Who are you?
Every conversation starts with an introduction so should your elevator pitch. First, let your name be known, and if you work for a company include your company’s name and what your role in the company is. Making sure you calmly introduce yourself easily set the tone for the next 75 seconds. Remember, the person or people you are talking to don’t know you, and therefore, keep the introduction short and simple. Some examples are below:
“Hi, I’m David. I’m a UX Designer at ADN Diginet…”
“My name is Amit, and I work with Roboket as the Product Manager …”
2. What does your company do (value)?
Here, you want to clearly state out what your company’s mission and goals are, and their product and service fit into everyday life. Therefore, you must go straight to the point, but be informative enough. So then, continuing with the previous examples, we can add the following;
“Hi, I’m David. I’m a UX Designer at ADN Diginet. We design and develop stories and bring them to live in every digital form which is all informed by diversity and culture…”
“My name is Amit, and I work with Roboket as the Product Manager. At Roboket, we help businesses to grow by supporting sales, marketing, and customer service automation…”
3. What do you do (value)?
To begin with, describe your value proposition, and do it well. Hence, make sure you paint yourself in a good light. Next, identify your key strengths and your experience worth and develop a critical highlight. From here, identify your target audience and tweak it to their taste.
“Hi, I’m David. I’m a UX Designer at ADN Studios. We design and develop stories and bring them to live in every digital form which is all informed by diversity and culture. With a focus on mobile and web design, I initiate the design process and ideas that are helping in navigating every aspect of any of our website and app development process…”
“My name is Amit, and I work with Roboket as the Product Manager. At Roboket, we help businesses to grow by supporting sales, marketing, and customer service automation. As the Product Manager, I make every problem go away and oversee the successful implementation of good ideas and features from start to finish…”
4. What do you want?
Now, aim for it. Here, you describe your intentions. This part is the core of your elevator pitch, and therefore, you focus more on how your values help with your intentions. Your intentions could be a job placement, mentorship, internship, networking and so on. So describe your intentions, and how your values help in achieving those intentions, and finally, how such a partnership could be beneficial for both parties.
Furthermore, let add some intentions to our elevator pitch examples.
“Hi, I’m David. I’m a UX Designer at ADN Studios. We design and develop stories and bring them to live in every digital form which is all informed by diversity and culture. With a focus on mobile and web design, I initiate the design process and ideas that are helping in navigating every aspect of any of our website and app development process. I would love to work on more user-centered projects that require a lot of usability research, and are centered around a unique story…“
“My name is Amit, and I work with Roboket as the Product Manager. At Roboket, we help businesses to grow by supporting sales, marketing, and customer service automation. As the Product Manager, I make every problem go away and oversee the successful implementation of good ideas and features from start to finish. I find the work you do at XYZ fascinating and exciting, and we would love the opportunity to work with your team on growth hacking…”
5. Call to action
Last, hit the nail on the head. Just dive right in and state what you would love to happen next. From a job interview, exchanging of contact information, meeting, idea implementation to requesting for a donation.
“My name is Amit, and I work with Roboket as the Product Manager. At Roboket, we help businesses to grow by supporting sales, marketing, and customer service automation. As the Product Manager, I make every problem go away and oversee the successful implementation of good ideas and features from start to finish. I find the work you do at XYZ fascinating and exciting, and we would love the opportunity to work with your team on growth hacking. I hope you don’t mind if I set up a meeting with you next week to call about a possible partnership…”

Here, a business card would be great for Amit, and for David, an email or profile link would be great. Don’t forget to thank them for their time whether it goes your way or not. However, if it does, a follow-up email alongside the business card works.

Mary and John Ramirez, the founders of our charity, came to this country poor and starving with their only child John Jr. Therefore, forced to live in squalid conditions, they soon lost John Jr. to polio because they couldn’t afford the vaccine. Determined that no other parent should ever go through such a fate again, they established the Guiding Light foundation. Together with other institutions, they help provide underserved immigrant communities with basic, adequate medical care. With a small donation of 50 dollars, you can help save others from the same fate.

On a closing note, keep it short and interesting. Take 75 seconds as the limit. It’s a sales pitch with your product ranging from yourself, your ideas, or your actual product or service. However, focus on the important things. Also, remember the step process. Be positive, compelling, confident, flexible, and time-conscious. As much as you’re time-limited, don’t rush. By the way, a call to action is important.
Subsequently, practice and practice and make it a part of you. Also, your presentation is as important as your elevation speech template. Therefore, practice. Finally, an elevator pitch is only good when requested unless it becomes a recitation rather than a pitch.
